Love at First Dance

A night of dancing led Marlene Massop to her husband! While he was home from the Air Force, mutual friends introduced the two. It didn't take long before they were on the dance floor and, well, as they all say, the rest was history. As the evening came to a close it was time for her, then future, husband to return to the forces. When he left for Detroit he promised to write letters and, for a singular penny, Marlene wrote back.

A Fiery Sight

In 1945 at just 11 years of age, Bob North sat looking out his kitchen window when he saw smoke coming from the direction of the Cobblestone. After trying to get his father's attention he recalls hearing a faint "Oh boy." Soon his father and uncle, both firefighters, were fighting the blaze and ultimately ended up saving the Ballroom. However, Bob wasn't able to watch them put out the fire because his parents insisted he had to catch the school bus.
